// About the Organization

Matzmichim Academy has been operating for more than 20 years as a leading force for social change, increasing feelings of security and belonging, reducing bullying in social settings and working to create a positive social atmosphere. Mazmichim founded its work on an evidence-based model for changing norms (SEL). Over 300,000 beneficiaries have participated in the activities so far.

// Project Description

The program includes innovative workshops to strengthen group resilience among elderly people who live in group settings such as assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or who attend day centers. Professional facilitators conduct sessions using unique methods to encourage sharing, emotional expression and group support. Every intervention includes: a prep meeting with the staff, three sessions of 90 minutes each with the group of seniors, and a training session for the staff who receive a detailed guidebook.​​​​​​​​​

// Project Goals

The purpose of the project is to strengthen resilience and a sense of belonging among seniors while addressing the issue of loneliness. The program highlights the participants' cultural as well as professional and unique personal contributions that they bring to the group. The goals of the program include improving the atmosphere in the group, enhancing self-efficacy and building group support mechanisms.

// Target Population

The program is designed for groups of senior citizens with normal cognitive functioning, who meet regularly at clubs, nursing homes and day centers. 60 groups of approximately 25 participants each. The program will provide training for the staff in every one of the locations- around 300 staff members. Total direct impact: all together 1,800 seniors and staff.
